Ramsey was incorporated in 1908 and that process annexed portions of land from the nearby towns of Mahwah, Ho-Ho-Kus, Waldwick and Allendale. Ramsey is named after Peter J Ramsey, a 19th century landowner who sold the land to create the downtown train station that was named 'Ramsey's'. The Old Stone House in Ramsey is a structure from the 1700;s that served as a farmhouse and a tavern during the Revolutionary War. The structure re-opened in 1960 and displays a nice variety of old pitchers that were used to serve beer back in the day! That is really going back in the day.
